La Quinta Roja Hotel in Garachico - Hotel of the Week

Corona Holidays have selected the La Quinta Roja Hotel in Garachico, Tenerife, as their Hotel of the Week. If you are looking to stay in a hotel with lots of history behind it, then the La Quinta Roja Hotel may be just what you are looking for.

A former mansion which dates back to the 17th century, the Hotel La Quinta Roja is in the old town of Garachico, right in the centre of the attractive church square where you will find is the centre of any activities which go on in the town [a good time for festivals in Garachico is between the 1st and 16th August each year]. Originally named after its owner - the Marquis of La Quinta Roja - the hotel today offers old-world Canarian charm and with an up-to-date level of comfort.

All the rooms are en-suite and are creatively furnished and include air-conditioning/heating, hairdryer, telephone, satellite TV and a stereo, internet connection, safe hire. There is a spa at the La Quinta Roja Hotel which features a hot tub, sauna and a sun terrace. For golfers, the nearest golf course is located just 8km from the hotel.

The history of the La Quinta Roja Hotel goes back to 1706 when the mansion was partially destroyed by the fire which ensued as a result of the volcanic eruption which occurred that year. The mansion was rebuilt and retained much of the original architecture and carved woodwork, and the wood used is called "tea" timber which is taken from the native Canarian pine trees. Today, this wood forms the majority of the ceilings in the hotel. In 1709, the Sisters of the Order of the Immaculate Conception took refuge at the mansion whilst their convent was being rebuilt and eventually moved back some 40 years later.

Renovated again in 2002, the La Quinta Roja Hotel offers a total of 40 rooms spread over 2 floor which are built around an enchanting courtyard. The hotel itself is of traditional stone with peach-washed walls and there is a 50m2 garden, a pretty patio area with a marble fountain and a seating area.
