Newcastle Airport Has New Onsite Hotel

Travellers from Newcastle Airport can now benefit from a stay at a new onsite hotel - the DoubleTree by Hilton Newcastle International Airport Hotel has just officially opened following a multi-million pount investment by the Cairn Hotel Group.

Just a few metres from the airport terminal, the glass fronted building has been designed for both business and leisure travellers.  The hotel offers a choice of 179 en-suite rooms, each with flat panel TV, free high speed internet access and soundproof windows.  Facilities include car parking, function rooms, a fitness suite and a choice of dining options and 24-hour room service.

New Terminal at Leeds Bradford Airport

Leeds Bradford Airport [LBA] has announced the commencement of works on the next major stage of its passenger terminal development, with an £11 million construction project to deliver new facilities and an improved passenger experience.

The development will provide a 65% increase in airside space over 2 floors, creating a new departure lounge, a new range of upgraded food and beverage offers, a major walk through Tax and Duty Free store and additional retail units.   The Yorkshire Premier Lounge will be enlarged and developed, while the security search zone will also be expanded, along with all boarding gate areas.

Work is scheduled for completion in summer 2012.

New Madeira Service Takes Off

Flights to Resume from Scotland on 20 April

It has just been reported that flights are expected to resume from Scotland from tomorrow, 20 April from 7am and England and Wales could follow later in the day.

The National Air Traffic Control Service advise that the volcanic eruption in Iceland had reduced and that the ash being emitted was not currently at altitudes that would affect the UK and that if this was continue we would be look at a continuously improving situation.

The flights would then open to a line between Teeside and Blackpool and then work southwards with the south of England expected to be re-open from around 18:00,

However, it is important that when airport re-open that customers still check the status of their flights with the individual airlines.

Manchester to Marrakech - New Route Launched

Easyjet announced the launch of a new route from Manchester to Marrakech in Morocco by recently offering complimentary camel rides in the city centre of Manchester. 

Paul Simmons - Easyjet's UK General Manager, commented that Marrakech is an ideal destination for winter sun with fantastic weather, the largest traditional market in Morocco and a square that bustles with bazaars, snake charmers, acrobats, musicians and tempting food stalls. 

The new route provides a three-times-weekly service.

Liverpool Airport - Flights to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura

Easyjet has announced that they have introduced a new Airbus 320 aircraft at Liverpool Airport and will be laying on additional flights to both Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

The new aircraft will seat 180 passsengers and Trevor Spinks, easyJet's UK commercial manager, has said "We've listened to customer feedback calling for more routes to the sun and are confident our two new routes to the Canaries will be a huge success."

Ryanair - New Routes from Edinburgh

Ryanair have announced that they will be introducing 8 new routes from Edinburgh to their winter schedule. Although Ryannair are cutting flights from Manchester and Stansted they will be offering additional services to Barcelona, Brussels, Gdansk, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Memmingen, Oslo and Tenerife starting 30 October 2009.

Flights from Manchester - Additional Routes for 2010


Jet2.com has announced that it will be launching 3 new routes out of Manchester for summer 2010 which will also create an additional 250 jobs. The additional routes will be to Gran Canaria, Kos and Venice.

They will also be increasing their number of services to
Lanzarote, Dalaman, Sharm-el-Sheikh and Tel Aviv.

As a result of this expansion, Jet2.com will have an additional 737 aircraft based at Manchester airport taking their total to 7 with 100,000 extra seats created for summer 2010.
