Love flowers?  Then you'll love the Madeira Flower Festival held in Funchal!

This year, the Festival is being held from the 1-7 May with the 2 main parades taking place on the 3rd and 4th.  The theme this year is "Madeira - The Route of Flowers" and, as always, will be spectacle of colours, aromas, music and entertainment.

Held every spring after Easter, probably the 2 main attractions for the Festival are the Children's Parade and Main Parade.

New Madeira Service Takes Off

Jet2.com have recently announced the introduction of a new flight from Manchester to Madeira, with one-way flights starting from around £70

Miguel Perestrello [Director of the Portuguese National Tourist Office] has said "Madeira is a fantastic holiday destination and we are delighted that the new flight route from Manchester will make the destination even more easily accessible for British customers based in the north west".

Madeira - The Monte Toboggan Ride

Slide in a metal-shod toboggan down the steep cobbled streets linking Monte to Funchal in Madeira.  Ernest Hemingway described it as one of the most exhilarating experiences of his life - try it yourself and find out!

Head up to the town of Monte which is high above Funchal.  Here you can join the line of tourists waiting to slide back down to the capital in a wicker basket mounted on polished metal runners.  Two toboggan drivers, wearing rubber-soled boots for grip, will push and steer you over the bumpy cobbles and ensure that you negotiate the sharp bends. The trip is approximateluy 4km and lasts about 20 minutes and are held throughout the day from 09:00 to dusk [weather permitting of course].
