Visit the Madeira Flower Festival 2014

Love flowers?  Then you'll love the Madeira Flower Festival held in Funchal!

This year, the Festival is being held from the 1-7 May with the 2 main parades taking place on the 3rd and 4th.  The theme this year is "Madeira - The Route of Flowers" and, as always, will be spectacle of colours, aromas, music and entertainment.

Held every spring after Easter, probably the 2 main attractions for the Festival are the Children's Parade and Main Parade.

The Children's Parade is held on Saturday 3 May with over 1,000 children taking part, and making their way to the Municipal Square where they build a stunning flower mural named the "Wall of Hope".  The day is rounded off by the release of doves and finally a children's show.

However, the primary attraction is the Main Parade held on Sunday 4 May during the afternoon.  At around 4pm, floats make their way through the streets of the centre of Funchal, and each float has its own theme but is adorned with flowers.   Our tip is to get there fairly early and to get a comfortable spot and it can take around 2 hours for the floats to all pass as there are over 2,000 participants.

Where is Madeira?
Madeira is an island in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 1,000km from Lisbon and 600km from Morocco and forms part of Portugal.
The island is known for its breath-taking views and its mild year-round climate.  In fact, at the beginning of May during the Flower Festival, you can expect to experience temperatures of around 20 degrees and is therefore an ideal holiday destination during late spring.

There are lots of other things taking place during the Festival - if you would like to see more details click here for our website page, which also gives details of some hotel and flight offers we have available for this period.

If you would like to visit the Festival, our top offer is at the 5 star Madeira Regency Palace Hotel in Funchal.

You can stay for 7 nights on Bed and Breakfast in a side sea view room from only £459 per person including flights from 2-9 May 2014.
